Coconino Cove: A Gem Hidden Inside Disney's Coronado Springs Resort

What do you think of Disney's Coronado Springs Resort?  I hear this question get tossed around quite a bit in Disney circles.  It would appear that CSR evokes all kinds of feelings in people.

"It's gorgeous!"

"Not for children."

"Too many business people."

"Pepper Market is wonderful...once you get the hang of it."

"Too spread out and too far to walk to some rooms."

"The Dig Site is awesome!"

These are the responses I hear most frequently.

It is true that Coronado Springs is becoming more and more suited to the business traveler.  After all, it has one of the largest convention centers in Florida!  Due to this, it does bring in many adults traveling alone.  In the evenings, the two bars near the main building, El Centro, can get loud and boisterous.
You may hear a few unsavory words fly as well.
However, the large pool area, the Dig Site, remains family friendly, complete with water slide, playground, arcade, games in the afternoons and movies under the stars at night.  The beauty of this resort remains appealing to all.  How can it not?

Still, of all resorts on Disney property, this IS the business traveler's destination.  Disney has recently started taking notice of other hotels successful in marketing to the business traveler. For example, the rooms are more (dare I say) masculine with elements of rich wood and metal accents.  Instead of a table and chairs like in most Disney Resort rooms, there is a desk with an ergonomic chair.
Behind the bedside table there are more electric outlets than usual.  The shower rod is bowed outwards to allow more elbow room.

The most exciting detail, though, is the brand new addition of Coconino Cove.  This is Disney's answer to the business lounge.  Now, if you've ever stayed Concierge level in Disney World, this lounge is not that.  It is the closest you'll ever get to concierge at moderate prices, though!  For the cost of a preferred moderate room, you get accommodations in Cabanas Building 9B, which is the closest building to El Centro and very convenient to the Dig Site.  You also get access to Coconino Cove.  Open for business from 7am-10am & 5pm-10pm daily.  They offer a continental breakfast in the morning and cheese, crudite, wine and beer in the evenings.  You also receive gracious hospitality, Disney advice and service while you're there.  I was especially impressed by Adam and Nathan in the evenings.

During my visit, I saw business travelers, couples and families all staying in Cabanas 9B.  Everyone seemed to feel welcome.  This place is a gem for sure!

  1. We LOVE Coronado Springs too Ami! Coconino Cove opened during our last stay, but we didn't have access. I think I'll try to rectify that in October; thanks for the peek!

  2. Sounds very similar to Marriott Concierge Lounges...which makes sense considering your comments regarding catering to business travelers.

I had no idea the resort was that large.

  3. I'm not a business traveler when I'm in Disney but one thing I would love to see at all the hotels: free printing. I've forgotten confirmations at home like for the new Fantasyland preview and at the Beach Club it was a huge pain in the butt getting a copy printed when at any other hotel I could've done it myself in 5 minutes for free. I did love the rooms at Coronado Springs, though--the best of the moderates with the nicest beds!

    1. This business lounge does come with computer access, as well as printing! I agree, that is something I've been frustrated with in the past as well. Take note, Disney!
