Tip Tuesday: Summer Rain

A soaking at Disney's Animal Kingdom

If you are traveling to Disney World in the summer months, I’m sure you are expecting HEAT.  What you may not be expecting, however, is the rain.

I’m really not trying to be gloom and doom here.  Actually, these summertime rainstorms frequently are a welcome occurrence.  They tend to happen every afternoon, just when the heat and humidity start to make you cranky.  Or maybe that’s just me that gets cranky?  At any rate, the rain comes, cools things off and Disney World is renewed for the duration of the day.

As quenching as this timely shower is, we don’t all enjoy being drenched.  Here are a few tips to avoid a soaking.

My favorite tip is also a way to beat the heat:  Leave the parks.  I love coming back to my resort for an afternoon swim or nap.  There seems to be a correlation between the time I’m ready for a break and the time the rain drip, drip, drops.   A shower (bath, not rain) then washes away the day’s sweatiness (unless you are a Goddess, then it washes away the day’s glow), and you are ready for the night of your life!

Rain jackets.  Simple enough.  Carrying around umbrellas is a nuisance, and the ponchos that Disney puts out at the first sign of a drizzle are expensive.  I suggest putting some Wal-Mart plastic ponchos or squishable rain jackets in a bag before heading out.  They don’t take up a lot of space and this way you are prepared.

My last tip is to ride Splash Mountain…or better yet, Kali River Rapids.  Hey, you’re going to get wet anyhow- make the best of it!  I may even like it more than dancing in the rain!
