Free-For-All-Friday: Loving the Lemon in us All
I may be taking this “free-for-all” idea a little far, given that it’s Saturday and this post is just now coming out. I have always seen “time” as more of a suggestion than a rule anyway. There was a certain opening night I wanted to go to…plus, this gives me an opportunity to share my lemony side. Confused? I’ll explain…
Ok, I saw Cars 2 3-D last night! This is not a review on the movie itself because, let’s get real, it was Disney Pixar so it was GOOD! Instead, I want to touch on a subject that, in the midst of all the jokes and cool spy moves, really touched me.
Mater is probably the most loved character in Cars. He’s funny, goofy, a little clueless. I think Lightening McQueen sums it up in Cars 1 with his line, “I am in hillbilly hell! My IQ is dropping by the minute!”
This movie takes that country-fied stereotype, and fills the shell with something we can all relate to on some level.
Doubt: Certainty that somewhere deep inside lives a mistake, incompetence –a lemon.
We have all felt, at one time or another, like we don’t fit in. In most cases, our self-esteem has undoubtedly taken a hit. We have an opportunity to learn from Mater to be true to ourselves. In his simplistic, humorous nature, hides a life lesson meaningful to us all. The fact of the matter is we all have something to bring to the table. Perhaps it’s the innate ability to figure out the answer to quandaries or just offering a different point of view. Maybe it’s being the greatest best friend in the world.
Whatever your strengths are, embrace them, appreciate them and have the courage to let your rust show.
